Academic Coach

Dr Agalya Ramanathan

Hi! My name is Dr Agalya Ramanathan. I’m an academic GP working in London/Oxford.

Ā I completed the ACF in GP/medical education in 2022 at the Royal Free hospital/UCL. Since then, well as being a GP, I have had the opportunity to work in primary care medical education within various universities (initially UCL, then Imperial, City St George’s and now Oxford). I am working to help improve exposure to and awareness of academic primary care for medical students and early career doctors.

Ā I studied medicine at Cambridge and Imperial. I originally embarked on a career in O&G, and started working as an ST1 in Southend hospital before realising I missed the depth and breadth of general practice, and was fortunate to secure an ACF post which I started in 2018.

I am actively involved in medical education research, have presented at conferences and published and am always keen to support and mentor colleagues where I can. I’m available for coaching for ACF applications and careers in medical education.

Academic Coach

Dr. Sanjana Kattera

Hey! I’m Sanjana Kattera, a ST6 Paediatric Neurodisability GRID Trainee in London since 2024. Currently based in Evelina Children’s Hospital and prior to this I was a Mersey paediatric trainee. Currently I’m on an out of programme undertaking a PhD funded by Wellcome with the Malawi- Liverpool Wellcome trust.

I am passionate about mentoring and supporting trainees through their professional development. In doing so, I hope to create a network where knowledge, experience and skills can be shared and learnt. I am particularly lucky having had inspiring mentors during my professional journey who guided me which has allowed me to gain success both with my GRID sub speciality application, securing my top choice on my first attempt, whilst balancing an academic career and securing an amazing PhD opportunity.

Having been a BACD trainee representative, RCPCH ambassador and working as an events co-lead for DMEG; I understand the challenges many trainees face in obtaining their desired career path and making most of their opportunities. I’d love to give back to the community, share my experience and build confidence in those wishing to pursue a career in paediatrics, applying for GRID sub speciality training and academic/ research jobs and fellowships.
